Manchester United kick off the 2018-19 Premier League season as Leicester City travel to Old Trafford on Friday night.
Jose Mourinho has cut a frustrated figure in pre-season as United’s transfer business stalled following the World Cup, and the Red Devils were unimpressive on tour (a 2-1 win over Real Madrid aside).
The Portuguese coach has been tasked with bringing back the glory days to the red half of Manchester, but Claude Puel’s Leicester – who have won the title since United’s last success in 2013 – will want to ensure Mourinho’s season begins with a whimper at Old Trafford.
Team News
Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Phil Jones have all cut their holidays short and returned to training ahead of schedule following the World Cup, but Rashford is the only likely starter among them after leading the line against Bayern Munich.
Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Marouane Fellaini, Ashley Young are also unlikely to be available after World Cup holidays.
Leicester are also set to be withoutNampalys Mendy, Demarai Gray and Jonny Evans, while Matthew James is out. However, new signing Rachid Ghezzal should be available for the Foxes.
